Blood Pressure Machines
When I think of blood pressure machines I call to mind the sit down machine in the
drugstore. I would sit and stick my arm, if I could get it to fit, in the round immovable arm band
cuff. I would press the button and wait as the machine chugged along and began to squeeze the daylights out
of my slightly too large arm.
My blood pressure was always too high or the machine errored out even before I developed high blood
pressure. I guess it was an omen of things to come..
Today I use my Omron HEM-650 Wrist monitor I bought at Walmart for just over $40 bucks. I use it all the
time to monitor my pressure and found it to be just as accurate as the old squeezy bulb, arm wrap cuff I used to
have. It finally broke down and the tubes kept coming off - I think "it" made my blood pressure go
up.
The Omron HEM-650 has APS (Advanced Positioning Sensor) it uses Omron's patented IntelliSense technology to
inflate the wrist cuff to the correct level and offers fast, personalized, and automatic inflation for maximum
comfort. This eliminates the all over the place readings of some other monitors by beeping a code to make
sure you hold your arm at the right height in relationship to your heart.
I had a hospital stay recently and my Omron wrist blood pressure machine was just as
accurate as the professional ones the nurses used.
With the HEM-650's 90-memory recall with date and time stamp, as well as its averaging capabilities for your
last three readings, you are able to track your blood pressure and pulse as you progress and work towards a
healthier lifestyle.
The HEM-650 also features an irregular heartbeat detection system which gives you a very good understanding of
your heart's rhythm. I found this invaluable as I was diagnosed with Atrial Fibrillation and my monitor caught every afib episode even if I did not feel it.
The Omron HEM-650 has a irregular heartbeat graphic that appears when it's sensors detect something funny
going on.
The doctors say my high blood pressure probably caused my Atrial Fibrillation so take my word for it when I say you NEED a blood pressure
machine to keep tabs on your pressure!
Because the HEM-650 uses a wrist cuff it is especially helpful if you have a larger than average sized arm. The
monitor fits those with a wrist size of 5.25 to 8.5 inches, and it ensures easier, comfortable and
accurate use.
